Students are expected to completed five hours of independent work outside of their lessons each week, and have access to their own dedicated art studio.
Year 12
Autumn term first half term is the Foundation stage – an introductory project involving drawing, painting, photography and sculpture tasks.
Autumn second half term is the Development phase - A Sense of Space, Self & Place. This is an independent project. Students define their own subject matter and develop ideas independently. Final outcomes are completed in the spring and summer term, and students prepare for the personal investigation.
Year 13
Personal investigation This is a practical investigation supported by written material.
Students are required to conduct a practical investigation, into an idea, issue, concept or theme, supported by written material.
The focus of the investigation must be identified independently by the student and must lead to a finished outcome or a series of related finished outcomes.
The personal investigation (coursework) is completed in the spring term.
Students prepare for the Externally Set Assignment (exam) in February. In June students complete a final outcome in a 15-hour exam, over three days.
